Daytona Beach Police Department Press Release

The Daytona Beach Police Department issued the following news release: At the request of the Daytona Beach Police Department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement became involved in the homicide investigations of Laquetta Gunther, Julie Greene, and Iwanna Patton. They readily committed to providing any resource the Daytona Beach Police Department felt it needed to make progress in these investigations.

One of the resources requested was the expertise of criminal profiler Tom Davis. Davis is a Special Agent with FDLE, working out of FDLE's Melbourne Field Office, and has extensive experience in the area of criminal investigative analysis.

SA Davis met with investigators on Monday, February 27th and began a thorough review of these pending cases. This review included interviewing the investigators, reviewing the case file, and visiting each crime scene. On Thursday, March 8th, SA Davis provided his report to the investigative team. (Note: this report will not be released for public review and is being made part of the case file.)

While the DBPD will continue to withhold specific information related this investigation, Captain Brian Skipper advises the following:

At this time there are no specific suspects. Persons of interest have been identified and appropriate follow-up conducted.
Based on evidence and information gathered to this point it appears that these incidents are the work of a serial offender.
It is believed that the perpetrator is male.
Each of the victims died from gunshot wounds.
No evidence has been discovered to indicate that any of the victims were abducted or taken against their will.
It is believed that these victims were 'substitute' victims. The victims are providing a channel for the perpetrator to act upon stressors in his life.
It is believed that a close acquaintance of the perpetrator is the source of causal stress in his life and that this person may become a victim in the future.
Based on investigative findings thus far the incidents are not related to, or connected to, area wide special events.

Finally, persons providing information that would lead to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of the three women are eligible for a reward up to $5000 through Crimestoppers. Persons can call 1-888-277-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward. The Daytona Beach Police Department Tip Line can also be utilized at 386-671-8477.
